Q. I've created a batch and added features and chart & cursor controls but, when I switch to data entry mode, I don't see any measurements - the cursors don't move and mimics show nothing but dashes.  What have I done wrong?

A. There are a number of possibilities here but the most likely cause, especially if you are new to QS-Pro, is that you have forgotten to attach the various cursor and chart controls to features.

Switch to Design Mode, right click one of the offending controls, and choose Attach from the menu.  Select a feature from the list in the Attach dialog and click OK.  Now switch back to Data Entry mode and check that the control now works as expected.

Every control should be attached to a feature and you can speed things up by selecting a group of controls to attach together.  Starting at an empty spot in the batch view hold down the left mouse button and drag over a bunch of controls.  QS-Pro draws selection markers on each one.  Right click any one of the selected controls and choose a feature from the Attach dialog, click OK and all of the selected controls will be attached to that feature.

An important diagnostic technique, if you are having trouble like this, is to trace the data all the way from the meauring instrument to the control on the batch view.  First use the Instrument dialog Test function to check that your instrument is correctly connected and is actually sending data to QS-Pro.  Next, in the Batch Plan dialog, check that the instrument is correctly specified as the data source for the feature.  You can choose the instrument from a drop down list to avoid typing errors.  Finally, in the Batch View, check that the controls are attached to the right features.

Finally, don't forget that you can attach controls directly to instruments and intermediate expression variables as well as to features.  Clear the Features Only checkbox to see variables and instruments as well as features.
