Q. Will QS-Pro run under Windows Vista?

A. Yes. QS-Pro (version 4 and above) has been tested under 32bit version of Windows Vista and runs without problems.  Some instrument drivers, eg. legacy ISA card drivers and the PCI Probe Card driver, will not run under 64bit editions of Windows Vista.  You should also be aware of the following points...

1. A new Vista compatible dongle driver is available.  If you see error messages about QS-Pro not being licensed you may need to download and run the new driver installer.  It's a 2MB file and you can download it here.  Either run it directly to install the dongle driver on your computer or save it to disk and run it later.  Either way you'll need administrator privileges.

2. Windows Vista protects the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE hive (HKLM) of the registry by creating a copy for each user and allowing software not running with administrator privileges to work with the copy rather than the real thing.  In computer terminology it 'virtualizes' HKLM.

If you move or rename QS-Pro's instrument file or system security database file, QS-Pro will try to save the changes in HKLM but Vista will actually change the current user's copy.  Other users will not see these changes.  To get round this, if you want to change the name or location of the instruments file or the system security database file, you must run QS-Pro with Administrator privileges: right click the QS-Pro menu entry or desktop icon and choose "Run as administrator".  Any changes you make while running as administrator will be visible later to other users.
