Q. What is a workgroup and what is the significance of the workgroup file, System.Mdw?

A. A workgroup, to QS-Pro, is a collection of users and user groups sharing a common database or collection of databases.  The workgroup database, System.Mdw, also referred to as the security database, is a file containing the login names and passwords of all the users in your QS-Pro system, and the groups to which they belong.

If users of your system are allowed to change their own passwords you will need to grant them read and write privileges in the folder containing the workgroup file.  You should not grant the delete privilege as deleting the workgroup file will defeat the Jet database engine security that QS-Pro uses.

QS-Pro finds the workgroup file from the registry entry SystemDB in the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Cadar/QS-Pro/<version>/Database.  This key can be edited or deleted only by users with Windows Power User privileges.
